Nail School Update! (Plus more!)

So I've mentioned before that I'm currently studying to get my qualifications to be a nail tech, and Tuesday night was the first night of term 2. Quarter way through it! WOO! Last term, we studied basic and deluxe mani/pedis, which I really enjoyed (and passed easily ;D), and this term we're doing acrylics. To be honest, I was a bit nervous, because I really expected to struggle with this... So after a demo in class, I called upon my favourite Client/Hairdresser Cienna, (who has supported me from day 1, and even encouraged me to apply for the course!) for a practice the night after.

Now, for my first time doing acrylics, I gotta say, I'm stoked with how I did. I took notes from the demo, but I barely needed to look at them! So after the entire process (except buffing for the last time), we took a photo (I do apologise for the bad lighting, it was 8pm!)

Not bad huh? And then, just because we can, I polished them.

That's A England Ascalon, with A England Bridal Veil as the accent nails, and it's all topped off with a franken holo topcoat I've made. They look sooooo good! Also, I have a few A Englands to show you soon, just waiting for some sun!

And, to explain why I haven't been posting much, I make and sell acrylic nail sets on etsy (chekkit out here!) and through facebook, and all of a sudden I had a HUGE amount of orders! So my week has been spent doing them, I posted the last one off this morning. And I figured I would share them with you! (not all are from actual orders, some I made for the hell of it)

So that's where I've been! I plan to get some awesome insane amounts of swatching done tomorrow so I guy show y'all some amazing things! (and start posting more!)

Until next time,

China Glaze Techno Teal

Yes, yes... another holo... Slowly but surely finding time to swatch my untrieds and post them... Mind you, it's currently 3:30 am, so I'm trooping on!

What I have here today is Techno Teal, from China Glaze's 2009 Tronica collection. I have 4 of the Tronicas to show you over time, sitting in my untried pile!

Techno Teal (or TT from now on! :p ) is one of those that look more blue on some, greener on others... On my skin, it looks blue, but it is a LOVELY blue!

It's a linear holo predominately, but it can look a bit scattered. The holo effect is not as strong as something like DV8, but it is definitely there!

For this swatch, I used 2 coats, but if you were careful, you could get away with one easily. I didn't use base coat, but I used one coat of Ulta3's Non Chip top coat, and it didn't dull the holo.

You know, I'm not a huge fan of blue, but polishes like this are why I seem to have so many blue polishes! It is honestly the perfect blue for me. Pigmented, easy to apply, eye-catching, and of course, holographic! Though if there were a non holo version, I would probably have that too!

And, just as an added bonus, I took it in my kit for my nail tech course last week, and did a pedi on a classmate using it! It was her first time with a holo polish, so she was a bit excited!

So, yet another amazing holo! And there are more to come, but I'm thinking my next post should be one of my biggest lemmings which I have ignored! ;)

Until next time,
Bec

Making up for a lost week!

Hello there Ladies (and Gents ;p)

It's been a hectic week for me! One post since Sunday?! UGH, so not like me! So, prepare for an epic catch up! It's now 11:35pm friday night, what better time to catch up?

As some of my beloved readers may know, I have just started a course to become a qualified Nail Technician. Only had two classes so far, but I'm loving it! This week we learnt how to do 'proper' salon style mains, complete with arm massage. It's a lot to take in, but very fun! I had to grab a quick pic of my work, on a classmate.

I was also asked by a friend to do some nails for a photoshoot on Thursday. I haven't seen any photos yet, but she was amazing enough to take one for me!

I love them! I used; CG Turned Up Turqoise, OPI Zom-Body To Love, Orly Androgynie, CG Cosmic and KleanColor Holo Green.

I had a few etsy orders too, so I've spent some time on them, I am SO in love with Milani One Coat Glitter!

And lastly, I must show you one of the perks of my Nail Tech course, wholesale priced polishes! A friend took me to one of the stockists today, where all they sell is Nubar, for very cheap! I was stunned at the range, there were even some extremely hard to find discontinued ones, like Nubar Peacock Feathers! Ugh so gorgeous. I was a little strapped on cash today though, so I only grabbed three, but they were three of my most sort after Nubars!

Nubar Reclaim, Black Polka Dots and Peacock Feathers. Cost me $18 all up, which is less than what one jar of Peacock Feathers would cost online! Not bad huh?
